Independent Pharmacies finally have the COVID-19 vaccines, Athens Messenger

Mar 18, 2021

After several weeks of waiting, independent pharmacies, like Klein's, recently received doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. This allows independent pharmacies the opportunity to address ongoing challenges in their communities related to COVID-19 safety.

Barry Klein, president, and owner of Klein's Pharmacy recently spoke to Athens Messenger about vaccine distribution. "We were saying, 'Get us vaccines. Let us do our jobs. We've been sidelined for six weeks.’ How many vaccines could we have given in that time?" At the time, pharmacies like ours were expecting to receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. We were grateful but surprised when we actually received the Johnson & Johnson doses. But the J&J vaccines opened up a slew of questions as many wondered if this vaccine would be as effective as its predecessors.

Michael Mina, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard University's T. H. Chan School of Public Health, shared that patients should receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and that it is a viable defense against COVID-19, known to decrease symptoms should an individual become sick with the virus.

Since the recent arrival of the vaccines, we’ve vaccinated 100+ members of our community. We look forward to vaccinating even more people as we continue to receive doses from the state.

Your healthcare is our top priority, and we continue to do everything we can to meet your needs.
